Chris Cleave’s comment on Incendiary
Dear Tanya,
I love your site - you are clearly an evil genius. Thank you for the kind review of Incendiary - I’m delighted you liked it. I have to say your method of reviewing is world class. Traditionally reviewers have compared writers to other writers, playwrights and even musicians. It makes no less sense to compare them to main courses. Having seen ‘Incendiary’ compared to the work of George Orwell, JG Ballard and even Satan, I am thrilled finally to see my book compared to a Texas wiener. It looks delicious. Personally I would have suggested some kind of radioactive shellfish, but I’ll settle for the hot dog. Secretly, I’m just ecstatic to have been awarded a higher “Chef” rating than F Scott Fitzgerald. Perhaps as my work develops it will attract grander accolades, but none that I shall treasure so dearly.
Tanya, you are cooking with gas. Bon appetit.
With very best wishes,
Chris

Anita Diamant’s comment on The Red Tent
Hi Tanya:
Since there is nothing more important to me than chocolate (don’t tell my family or friends, okay?) I am beyond honored by your review.
Only thing is… milk chocolate? No, for me, it’s all about the dark stuff, though believe me, if someone handed me Hersey bar right now, I wouldn’t turn up my nose.
Thank you so much.

Lionel Shriver’s comment on We Need To Talk About Kevin
Tanya,
HarperCollins forwarded your letter and accompanying Web review. Thanks so much–your compliments made me blush. I love the recipe motif, and the deviled egg (which came first, the devil or the egg?) is perfect.. My new novel, The Post-Birthday World, has lots of food in it. Hope you like it as much as Kevin, though it’s a very different book. Writing a very different book seemed a veritable obligation after Kevin. No sequels in the works there.
Warmly,
Lionel Shriver

Marina Lewycka’s comment on A Short History Od Tractors In Ukrainian
Dear Tanya
Thankyou for your letter, which Penguin forwarded to me. I loved your website - what a great idea. I must admit, I always thought Nachynka meant stuffing, but maybe it just means you stuff yourself - something I usually enjoy doing (depending on the food, of course) and just what Valentina needed to fill out those boobs. I was pleased to note that when I followed the link on your site from false boobs it led to a health warning. Quite right too. Don’t try this at home, readers.
Bye for now,
Marina

Yasmina Khadra’s comment on The Attack
Merci, Tanya.
C’est grâce à des gens comme vous que le Livre continue de vivre dans cette
foire chaotique qu’est devenue le monde aujourd’hui.
Votre initiative est heureuse et utile.
Ravi de vous avoir pour amie.

Chris Bohajian’s comment on Midwives
Dear Tanya,
I love your write-up of MIDWIVES, and your incredibly kind words about the
novel. Thanks so much — I am flattered and grateful.
I also think the South Park Chef icons are an absolute scream.
I think the connection between fiction and food is terrific, and you’re on
to something.
Happy reading — and dining.
All the best,
Chris B.

Lesley Kagen’s comment on Whistling in the Dark
Hey Tanya,
Food and books…what else is there? (Okay, sex. Fine. But ah, correct me if I’m wrong, I believe even that has something to do with wieners and buns, right?)
Thanks so much for the yummy review! So glad you enjoyed Whistling in the Dark. Hugs,
Lesley

Anita Diamant’s comment on The Last Days of Dogtown
Hi Tanya:
LOVED your review, especially the part about nosing around the book!
I wish I liked gruel, but I think it was a very apt choice.
Please keep me posted!
All best wishes,
Anita
